To help out, this is referencing stuff from way back in 2005.

I did quite a bit of research on the NES color limitations. The best I could understand is that each element had a limitation of four colors.

and is A LOT cheaper to use.

Generally speaking on the NES, the colors black and white don't count in the allowed numbers of colors for the sprites and backgrounds.

Based on all that, most elements used in these comics have no more than four colors each.

For these backgrounds I decided to use as little black as possible. I reserved that for the characters. It really does help to make them stand out more.
